Construction matters as much as fill type for how warm a jacket ends up feeling. Baffled construction, where the shell is stitched into pockets that hold the down in place, keeps warmth distributed evenly but adds bulk and cost. Sewn-through construction is lighter and cheaper but creates cold spots along every seam, since there’s no insulation at the stitch line itself — worth checking before you assume two jackets with the same fill power will feel equally warm.
Matching the Fill to the Use
